We are located in Calgary, Alberta (Canada), and have been fortunate to live with cats for many years. Several years ago, when looking for a companion for one of our cats, we discovered Birmans. After researching the breed, we felt that their quiet, gentle manner was what we were looking for. After living with them for many years, we have discovered that there is so much more that endears the Birman to us.
Mika
One of our first discoveries was the tradition breeders follow in naming their kittens. Every year is assigned a letter of the alphabet, and all the Birman kittens born in each year have names starting with that letter. The year we found our girls was the year of “Q”. We welcomed into our home Sheelingwood Quant, a lovely blue point girl, and Sheelingwood Quatro, a lively seal lynx point girl. We renamed them Mika and Suki.SukiIn October of 2000 we were given the opportunity to get into breeding and showing Birmans with a sweet blue point girl named Birash Xposee of MikaSu. We shortened her name to Posee. Posee quickly became a Regional winners and a Supreme Grand Champion with The International Cat Association. She has also become only the second Birman female in TICA history to earn the title of Outstanding Dam! Our cattery name is a combination of Mika and Suki’s names – MikaSu. We are a small cattery. Lots of attention and love are given to our “boys and girls”. They are very healthy and content. Our cats are strictly indoor animals. For maximum sociability, they are all treated as our pets. They do not live in cages or pens, but have the run of our home.
